Solar Heating Efficiency
Solar heating is not a new method for heating, it has been around for a long time and is now becoming more well known as it become increasingly available and affordable.
One of the reasons solar heating is now more common is due to the fact that solar heating solutions are becoming more and more efficient. This increased efficiency means that once a solar heating system is implemented the initial cost offset quicker than it would have been many year ago.
New technology and clever ideas have allowed solar power to be used for a vast variety of devices and applications. Amongst the many uses solar heating is one of the easiest and cost efficient applications, it has become an industry in itself with many different solar heating solutions available.
Solar heating can be used to fully replace your existing heating systems or to supplement it. It can come in the form of solar panels, solar water heaters, or other solar powered gadgets. Either way it will make your home much more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
Advantages
As well as the advantages of energy efficiency and environmental friendliness there are also other benefits of using solar power.
Free Energy - Once a solar heating system is set up it does not cost you anymore to run it. The initial cost is offset and then whatever you get out of it is completely free energy.
Money Back - It is common, especially in summer months where daylight hours are longer, for peoples solar systems to generate more power than is needed by the home. In this case it is possible to put this power back into the grid whilst charging a reverse cost on the power company, this is basically selling power back to the grid.
The Types of Solar Heating
The method used for solar heating is through solar roof panels. These are placed on the roof of your home and are arranged to face south as that is where they will be exposed to largest amount of sunlight throughout the day.
Solar roof panels are especially good if you have a lot of roof area. There are a few types of solar panel that might be used to supply your home with heating via solar energy. The panels absorbs solar energy and heats up water, air or both for use in the home; and, with the right type of solar panel, can power the electrical devices in your home too.
There are two categories for solar heating, active and passive.
Active solar heating systems actively pump water or air, depending on what you are heating, around the system to the places that it needs to be at the right time. In other words part of the energy is used to push water or air through the system, through the use of a circulating pump.
Passive systems do not “push”. They simply heat up the water or air for it to travel around the system to the right places naturally. These systems are designed in such a way the the water or air move around efficiently.
In general active systems can heat things up faster because the water or air move around the system more quickly allowing more energy to be transferred. Passive systems use no energy at all and has a very low setup cost, it is usually used to supplement an existing heating system.
Solar heating is a fantastic way to reduce your utility bills and at the same time reduce your impact on the environment.
